Jared Steward

Jared Steward is a versatile nonprofit and healthcare operations leader with over 20 years of experience in financial management, technology systems, and organizational improvement. Known for bringing clarity and structure to organizational operations, Jared has a proven track record of improving processes, strengthening internal systems, and producing consistently clean financials.


His leadership has spanned a diverse array of non-profit and for profit organizations, including those in the arts, education, and healthcare. Jared employs a calm, analytical approach in his work and has a strong commitment to projects that create a lasting impact. Whether implementing organization-wide technology upgrades or developing data-informed strategies for growth and sustainability, he combines strategic vision with hands-on execution.


He began his career in healthcare, holding administrative and systems-focused roles within hospital environments. In one of his roles as Cash Posting Supervisor, he oversaw daily payment processing, ensured accurate reconciliation of patient accounts, trained and managed staff, and refined internal systems to improve revenue cycle workflows.


After moving to Winston-Salem in 2007, Jared simultaneously pursued a Master’s degree in music from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (received in 2010) while working remotely for United Medical Center in Washington, DC. He then transitioned into financial and leadership roles at several arts and community organizations, including Separk Music, The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem, and Sawtooth School for Visual Art. At each organization, he brought a strong focus on financial transparency and operational efficiency. Since joining the staff of Leadership Winston-Salem in 2021, he has continued to refine processes and support the organization’s growth into the future.


Jared regularly performs as an extra percussionist with the Winston-Salem Symphony and other groups. He has performed in a number of orchestras and other ensembles from Massachusetts to North Carolina and St. Louis, MO as well as in Rome, Italy. He has been teaching private percussion lessons for over 30 years. Jared is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in a leadership role as First Counselor to the Bishop in the Winston-Salem Ward since 2021. He enjoys being in nature, studying Japanese, reading, and spending time with his wife Tonya and their three children.
